Dozens of Old Cranleighans and past and present members of common room  attended a moving service of thanksgiving on Friday, July 2, for the life of Andy Hobbs (Loveday, 1979-84) after his death on June 13 at the age of 44.

Andy was senior prefect as well as captain of the 1^st XV and played rugby for  England at Under-18 level.   After qualifying as a doctor he worked as a GP in Marlow. He was married to Janet with three children, William, Molly and Ella.

His OC brothers Mark and Paul spoke of his family and  early years, John Thompson of his school years, sport and after, and Dr James Morrow of Andy’s life as a doctor.

Present at St Mary's Church, Maidenhead, were many of his OC friends and staff who played their part in his Cranleigh years, among them Marc van Hasselt, Alan Megahey, John Bain, Roger Knight, Dick Moore and Mike Payne. Also Robin Fawkner-Corbett, who accompanied the 1983 tour of New Zealand by the 1^st XV which Andy captained.
