Michael Ashley-Brown (1&4 South, 1962-66) writes: Noting that Jolyon Palmer is the reigning GP2 Series motor racing champion I was struck by something a little bit spooky. Back in 1958 the GP2 series was known as Formula Junior and as today, was the feeder class for the Senior Grand Prix class.
I have owned a 1958 Volpini-Fiat Formula Junior car for the last 11 years. The car was designed by Ferrari and the works driver was Lorenzo Bandini. In that time the car has won its class in the British Championships 4 times and the FIA championship once.
To honour Jolyon’s great achievement in winning last year’s GP2 championship and equally to note his position as reserve driver with Formula 1 Lotus I have changed my helmet colours for 2015 and I hope to amuse you with a photo!
