This coming November Joseph Quinn (North, 2009-2014), will be running a 75-mile assault course in 24 hours in the Nevada desert.  The challenge/race sees athletes complete as many laps of the five-mile course as possible.  There are over 375 obstacles which include a 40-foot cliff jump, underwater tunnels and the infamous electric shock therapy. If successful Joseph will become the youngest person ever to succeed.

His challenge is in aid of two charities, The Endeavour Fund and Teenage Cancer Trust.  The Endeavour Fund helps wounded servicemen and women with advice, hands on support, and mentoring to help them with the next chapter of their lives.

Joseph was inspired to take on this challenge by the late polar explorer, Henry Worsley who last November set off on a 1200 mile trek to become the first ever person to cross the Arctic unassisted and unaided. When just 30 miles short of his goal, he had to be airlifted to hospital due to complications and he later passed away.

Unfortunately Joseph never managed to meet Henry but got to know him through his daily podcasts whilst he was out on the ice and through his friend/Henry’s daughter, Alicia. She spoke of his epic adventures and all his polar skis and arctic maps were hanging all over their house.

“It is rare in life when you find someone who you see as a modern day hero and for them to be so close to home for you,” Joseph said. Being in awe of what Henry achieved, he wanted to help continue the work he’d began and help raise funds for his chosen charity.

Henry’s challenge was raising funds for the Endeavour Fund, a charity which embodied all of what Henry stood for. As of now, his fundraising total stands around the £430,000 mark with an ultimate goal of £500,000. There are a few things Joseph is doing to try to get to his goal, one of them being the Endeavour Fund BBQ party.

Joseph thought it would be nice for people who backed Henry’s campaign, and for people who are backing his, to come together in London and just get to know one another and see what an amazing job the Endeavour Fund is doing to change the lives of ex-service men and women.

Below is a link to the fundraising page where you’ll be able to buy a ticket. The event will be on Saturday 10 September.
