In 2019 Nick Meyer (2&3 South 1962) celebrated his 75th year by walking the length of the Cornish coastline, raising £25,000 for the Cranleigh Foundation along the way. Now in his 80th year his feet were itching again. This time he is walking an 80km cross country route from Winchester to Cranleigh, timed to finish at the School on 29th June (OC Day). Cranleigh was originally in the diocese of Winchester as the diocese of Guildford was not created until 1927. That’s why the Winchester cross is in the School shield. Also, the Bishop of Winchester carried out the formal opening of the School in 1865.

Nick’s walk commenced on Saturday 13th April with a blessing from the Bishop of Winchester at Winchester Cathedral. The first day of walking saw him accompanied by Cranleigh Head, Martin Reader and his wife, OCS and Cranleigh Network Manager, Vickie Ingle and three dogs! 10.5km saw them finish at the Tichbourne Arms for pints of lime and soda.
On Sunday Nick was again joined by Vickie with the addition of Simon Broadhurst (2&3 South 1997). They covered a rather punishing 15km that day finishing in the village of Four Marks.
Day 3 (Saturday 20th April) commenced in Four Marks, this time Nick was accompanied by Simon Broadhurst and Peter Wylie-Harris (West 1961) and they managed over 13km to finish in the village of Upper Froyle. Sunday took them to the glamourous end point of the Screwfix car park in Wrecclesham! Finding places to leave cars at the beginning and end of the days walk has probably been the biggest logistical challenge of the walk!
